In early November, a meeting was held between Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Hamas leader Ismail Ghaniya. Then Tehran sent a “clear signal” to the Palestinian group that it would not enter the war against Israel on its side.

It also became known that Hamas did not warn Iran about its plans to attack Israel on October 7. The editor-in-chief of the “Details” portal Emil Shleimovich commented on this news to Channel 24 .

“This corresponds to everything that we have seen lately. The hint that Hamas did not warn anyone, in particular Hezbollah, was made in Nasrallah’s first keynote speech,” Shleimovich noted.

So, the leader of Hezbollah then hinted that “you started it yourself – figure it out yourself.”

Iran is not ready to fight

As you know, the United States sent two aircraft carrier groups to the eastern Mediterranean. This represents a major deterrent to Iran and Hezbollah from intervening in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The situation on the military field is not developing so well for Iran to now participate in some kind of war. <...> If Iran doesn’t go, then Hezbollah probably won’t either,” Shleimovich said cautiously.

Moreover, it is worth considering that this is not a conflict with Iran. Hamas is the Palestinians, and for Iran, Lebanon and Syria are more important assets that it does not want to lose now.

Is Iran involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: basics

  • On the first day of Hamas' attack on Israel, October 7, Iran “congratulated” the militants. Supreme Leader adviser Rahim Safavi said he would support the Palestinians until the “liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.”
  • Iran remains one of Hamas's main financial donors. Every year the Palestinian group receives up to $100 million from Tehran.
  • At the same time, US intelligence suggests that Iranian leaders were “surprised” by the Hamas attack on Israel. This information increased doubts about Tehran's direct role in planning the attack.
