After Russia's full-scale invasion, Denmark sent all 19 of its Caesar self-propelled guns to Ukraine, as well as the M109A3s that had been restored from storage. Now the country has found Soviet 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled guns for the Ukrainian Armed Forces somewhere.

The transfer of these weapons took place without any announcement. This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to the Defense Express material.

When Denmark transferred the 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled gun to Ukraine

Journalists noted that they learned about the transfer of the 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer to the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Denmark only because the Danish government “silently” updated the list of weapons and military equipment that had already been provided to our country.

Danish security analyst Hans Tino Hansen drew attention to the update of the list of weapons transferred to Ukraine from Denmark.

At the same time, the list itself does not contain any information about the number of Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers and where exactly Denmark was able to get them. Journalists noted that it would be difficult to establish the origin of the artillery unit, since they are exported to 20-30 countries around the world, and another 10 belong to former operators.

Even the moment these self-propelled guns appeared on the list can only be established publicly. In particular, the Wayback Machine service shows that the mention of the 2S1 Gvozdika in the Danish government list appeared between November 28 and December 12, 2024, the publication writes.

Journalists also note that in general, Denmark, which has very limited capabilities to strengthen Ukraine with weapons, is one of the powerful arms donors for Ukraine. In particular, if we take only artillery, then after the transfer of all available Caesar self-propelled guns, the country ordered additional artillery mounts of this type for Ukraine, as well as 16 Slovak Zuzana-2s together with Germany and Norway.

The Danes also began ordering Ukrainian self-propelled guns “Bogdana” for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, starting the so-called “Danish model”, which other EU countries began to use.
