Russia's exemplary annexation of the South will not change the real situation. Forced “passportization” and “filtration” have done more harm to Ukraine than possible “referendums”.

The political, military, economic and other consequences of a prolonged Russian military occupation in the South and East would be devastating for the existence of the Ukrainian state. This was reported by the American Institute for the Study of War in a report dated August 10.

Dramatic annexation will not change the harsh reality

The performative drama of annexation will not change reality in the place created by the brutal Russian occupation. Forced passportization, logging, “filtering” and other “integration” measures that are already being carried out in the territories occupied by Russia are much more important and harmful for Ukraine than referendums, the report says.

The Institute says that the date of referendums on annexation may change. Previously, ISW believed that this would happen on September 11, but give again incomprehensible.

The occupying “authority” has taken measures to be able to hold fictitious referendums at any time. Russians can offer “online voting” in the Donetsk region. In Zaporozhye, the occupiers planned to go door-to-door, questioning the local population.
