When the price of salt and sugar will rise again/Channel 24 Collage
Due to the full-scale military invasion in Ukraine, many areas are suffering. In particular, the population is worried about rising food prices.
What Ukrainians eat, 92% is domestic production. Oleg Pendzin, executive director of the Economic Discussion Club, told Channel 24 about this.
He explained that we export some fruits, as well as fish, because so far Ukrainians do not have the opportunity to catch it.
Inside the country, the price of food is much lower than that of our neighbors. Due to the blocking of exports in Ukraine, conditions for a food surplus have been created, – said Oleg Pendzin.
“Eggs have become very cheaper over the year, despite the fact that there are also lost poultry farms. Ukraine fully provides itself with milk. Virtually everyone,” the expert emphasized.
Salt and sugar
Despite this, there is a shortage of some goods that are forced to be imported. Oleg Pendzin reminded that “Artyomsol” stopped its work due to hostilities, so the salt is brought from abroad.
The expert suggested that the price of it and sugar will rise in July. After all, a period of spins will begin and, accordingly, demand will increase.
The rational rate of salt consumption is 5 kg per capita per year. It is defined in Europe. Do Ukrainians know how much they eat? 15 kg. Due to the peculiarities of Ukrainian food culture (spins) and Ukrainian cuisine, Oleg Pendzin said.
He added that in the summer our sugar consumption is still growing very much, because housewives make jam.
