The defense ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania held a meeting in Riga. There they signed a historic agreement. In the coming years, countries will create a defense zone on their borders.

Details about the new defense zone

It will consist of different defense facilities. Their goal will be to deter and, if necessary, protect against military threats from Belarus and Russia.

The Baltic Defense Zone is a carefully considered a project the need for which arises from the security situation. Russia's war in Ukraine has shown that in addition to equipment, ammunition and manpower, we also need physical defense facilities on the border in order to protect Estonia from the first meter. – the message says.

The Estonian Ministry of Defense noted that the Baltic countries are one combat area. Therefore, a defense zone will be prepared with Latvia and Lithuania. The goal of the project is to do everything to make the residents of the countries feel safe.

It is noted that in peacetime no explosives will be placed in the zone. All processes will be coordinated with local communities.

In addition, defense elements will be placed throughout the landscape. To do this, the results of the analysis of the enemy, as well as the environment, will be taken into account.
