Defending democracy in the world: Zelensky responded to Republicans who opposed aid to Ukraine

Republicans in the US Congress should know that a significant portion of the $61 billion allocated by America for Ukraine will go to the defense sector of the United States.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated this in an interview with Fox News.

Message to Republicans in Congress

The presenter asked Zelensky what he would say to the Republican congressmen who, during voting in both houses of the US Congress, opposed providing support to Ukraine in the amount of $61 billion.

— My message to those congressmen who were against it: they should know that this money goes primarily to the US defense sector. We need, first of all, weapons. This is not a question of money, but first of all — weapons. They must know that their production will receive tens of billions, jobs, taxes — all this will be in the USA, — he said.

In addition, the President of Ukraine assured that those who opposed additional funding should realize that some of this money will not go to Ukraine, but will remain in others European countries.

— Some of the weapons that we also need, which are in dire short supply, that we need — and the USA supports us in this, and this is always help to the industry of those countries. She is not going to Ukraine, — Zelensky explained.

The third element in his message to the Republicans Zelensky called the joint development of technologies between the United States and Ukraine using these funds.

— When the United States gave a certain amount to the Ukrainian budget, for example, for our defense industry — with the Americans we have no secrets — all these technologies, and we spend a lot of time, attract scientists, our Ukrainian guys, very smart guys, also Americans and British take part in this. We share all these technologies with our American partners, — he explained.

The head of the Ukrainian state indicates that today the American side can see “every dollar that comes into Ukraine”.

Transparency — they have it all. They know this, or this is military assistance, or direct financing of some of our industrial areas — everything is visible. And when we share these technologies with the US — it's not about giving something away, it's about getting something in return — says Zelensky.

Finally, the President of Ukraine reassured and assured that “everything will go to the battlefield, supporting not only the Ukrainian army, but also to defend democracy in the world”.

Vladimir Zelensky added that the USA and Ukraine are free people, so the American people may not support Ukraine.

— Different people have different motives, but Americans are generally on our side. And, predominantly, both Congress and the Senate are on our side. And this means that the USA is on our side, — he said.

Support for Ukraine in the US Congress

Recall that during the voting in the US House of Representatives for the aid package to Ukraine, congressmen cast 311 votes for support, including 210 — Democrats, 101 — Republicans. At the same time, 112 Republicans opposed supporting Ukraine during the vote.

The best situation was in the American Senate, where the decision to support Ukraine was made by 79 votes against 18.
