We consider the starting point to be the year of foundation of Kyiv – the capital of Kievan Rus – Ukraine, which is not in vain called the place where it all begins,” Zelensky said on August 24, 2021.
July 28, according to the resolution, which was submitted to the parliament immediately on August 25, is a day off. The bill was considered by the people's deputies already on May 31, 2022, during the full-scale war that Russia started – there were 257 people's deputies for the holiday.

Ukrainians will never give up independence, – Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelensky also mentioned the holiday, which was announced almost a year ago, in an address dated July 24, 2022. The head of state noted that it is significant that Ukraine will celebrate the Day of Ukrainian Statehood for the first time during the war.
But let's note. Against all odds. Because Ukrainians cannot be broken. After everything that our people have gone through, after everything that we have learned over a century, Ukrainians will never give up independence,” the President emphasized.
Zelensky said that Ukraine’s state experience reaches a thousand years. And now, in the exploits of our soldiers and the daily work of Ukrainians, the same characters of fighters for their own state are reflected as a century ago. As for the enemy, only those who do not know the Ukrainians and their history could decide to attack. Now there are no doubters in the world about the victory of our state.
The editorial staff of Channel 24 congratulates Ukrainians on the Day of Ukrainian Statehood and thanks all the fighters for independence – both in the past and those who right now are rebuffing the aggressor at the front.
