On the evening of September 21, an exchange of prisoners took place. Ukraine then managed to return more than 200 Ukrainians from Russian captivity, and with them the mother of the sisters from Mariupol.
Very young girls, like thousands of Ukrainians, experienced the horror of war due to unprovoked Russian aggression. Like thousands of Ukrainians, they were forced to leave their parental home.
The sisters' father died, their mother was captured
Kristina and Vlada's father was a military man and gave his life for Ukraine. Their mother, also a military man, was among the defenders of Azovstal and was captured a few months ago.
Therefore, the sisters, who found themselves alone with the war, had to continue to live without their parents and every day look forward to the return of their mother .
They resisted. Withstood. And wait for the happiest day! The day before yesterday, my mother was released from captivity along with 215 other defenders,” said Irina Vereshchuk.

Return of the defenders Azovstal: the main thing
- The first photos of the successful release of 215 Ukrainians from captivity appeared on the Internet on the evening of September 21. Thus, Ukraine managed to release 124 officers, of which 108 were the defenders of Azovstal.
