Evacuation in Italy

About 1,000 residents were evacuated in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna after heavy rains and severe flooding overnight on Sept. 19, APNews reported.

At least 800 residents of the Ravenna region and nearly 200 residents of the Bologna province spent the night in shelters, schools and sports centers as local rivers overflowed their banks.

Train services were suspended and schools were closed in the affected areas, and residents were advised to avoid travel and work from home where possible.

Flooding in Poland

Flooding has affected southwestern regions of Poland, where a state of natural disaster has been declared. Opole and Wroclaw remain under threat.

Local authorities have ordered the use of 40,000 sandbags to raise the embankment by one and a half meters, thereby protecting residential areas that are at risk of flooding.

According to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, it is too early to talk about the scale of the damage, but victims can already apply for compensation.

— Once again, I would like to clearly tell all flood victims — applications for compensation of 10 thousand zlotys should be submitted at social assistance centers. These 10 thousand — are immediate assistance for those who have lost their livelihood, so that you have something to live on for the next few days. But if we are talking about the restoration or repair of houses and apartments, then the aid will amount to 100 thousand zlotys. This is not a loan, not a credit, but a non-repayable aid, — said Tusk.

The Danube has overflowed its banks in Hungary

In the capital of Hungary, Budapest, the Danube has burst its banks and started flooding the streets.

As Deutsche Welle reports, the water has already reached the Hungarian parliament building.

The country's Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the peak of the flooding is expected in the capital of Hungary on the evening of September 21.

According to him, despite the seriousness of the situation, the Hungarian authorities have sufficient resources to combat the flooding.

Flooding in the Czech Republic

According to the latest data, at least five deaths have been recorded in the Czech Republic, and eight people are still missing.

The bad weather left about 260,000 homes without electricity and some railways were blocked.

According to Petr Pavel, the restoration of the areas of the Czech Republic affected by the flooding will take months or even years.

— The government must provide significant financial and other assistance to mayors and ensure local elections, which will be held next weekend, — he said.

Forest fires in Portugal

A state of natural disaster has been declared in Portugal. Forest fires are raging in the north and center of the country. The Emergency Service has recorded more than 150 fires.

At least seven people have died. Of them, four are rescuers. Three firefighters died in their vehicle, and another died while on duty over the weekend, as well as three more civilians, the Civil Protection Service reports. About 150 people were injured to varying degrees.

According to CNN Portugal, law enforcement officers have detained at least 74 people on suspicion of arson.
