Curfew in Ukraine: can it be canceled and which regions will be the first

Curfew throughout Ukraine has been in place since Russia's full-scale invasion began. So far, there are no restrictions only in the Transcarpathian region.

The Channel 24 website figured out where and under what conditions the curfew can be lifted or this should be expected only after the victory.

Curfew Can Be Lifted

The curfew in all areas starts at 22:00 or 23:00 (depending on how far the region is from the war zone), and ends at 4:00, 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning.

< p>Oleksandr Khmelevskiy, Ph.D. in Economics, an independent expert, recalled that now in Ukraine only in the Transcarpathian region there is no curfew. All others remain restricted.

At present, no curfew is expected to be lifted in any of the regions. Moreover, in the fall, the duration of the curfew in many regions may be increased. This is due to the increase in the duration of the dark part of the day,โ€ the expert noted.

He added that in the western and central regions, the curfew could be lifted earlier. It all depends on the intensity of hostilities and air strikes.

If the war goes into a protracted phase and continues only in certain regions, and air strikes become less intense, then the curfew may be lifted in a number of areas. explained that as of today it is not the time to lift the curfew, even in certain areas. After all, we are a single country, we have one enemy, which also aims to divide us, and therefore it is inappropriate to cancel the curfew in certain areas. Therefore, a decision regarding the entire territory of Ukraine is possible after the victory.

Perhaps if there is an urgent need for this in certain regions, for example in the western regions located far from the war zone, then the curfew can usually be relaxed. However, nevertheless, we must understand that until martial law is lifted, the curfew will continue to be relevant. And this will be possible when Ukraine wins,โ€ Monastyrskaya said.

Why do we need a curfew

Violetta Monastyrskanoted that curfew is one of the measures of the legal regime of martial law, which is provided for in paragraph 5 of part 1 of Art. 8 of the Law of Ukraine “On the legal regime of martial law”, namely, it is a ban on staying on the streets and in other public places during a certain period of the day without specially issued passes and certificates.

The introduction of a curfew and the establishment of a special regime blackout is carried out only when there is a real threat to the life and safety of persons, the interests of society or the state, as well as to ensure public order.

Obviously, just as a whim, no one would implement the appropriate restrictions. This is possible only if there is a real threat! And this must be understood. Regarding the lifting of the curfew, the question arises “for what?”. For some reason, society perceives the curfew as a punishment. However, this is our safety! This is something that can save someone's life. I believe that the Government is appropriate to prolong the curfew, especially since this possibility is legally provided for in the context of the introduction of martial law,โ€ Monastyrskaya said.

She added that there are certain inconveniences, but the curfew justifies itself. These restrictions make it possible to avoid the penetration of sabotage groups (DRGs) into the territory of the country, including the central and western regions of the country. If flights from the sky can be traced, provocations by the DRG without a curfew are much more difficult to identify.

War is chaos. And if everyone, and not just the military on the front lines, does not try to observe certain discipline, certain rules, then you can lose the war because of your own “efforts.” Unfortunately, society is used to war. People have begun to relax, so lifting the curfew will definitely not have positive consequences. Every day, every region of the country hears air raid alerts, missiles hit somewhere, and a DRG is operating somewhere. If you think about it, it is much easier to plant explosives on a sabotage group and arrange a quiet provocation than to launch rockets in front of your eyes. – Monastyrskaya explained.

She also noted that the DRG is no less dangerous than rocket salvos. Therefore, the curfew during martial law is an important and integral part of the conduct of war.
