Cruise missiles “Caliber”: the main characteristics and cost of weapons with which Russia attacks Ukraine

by alex

Russia is using a number of weapons against Ukraine, including Kalibr missiles. The enemy launches them at our country, most often from the temporarily occupied Crimea or the Black Sea.

By the way, it was these missiles that probably crossed the airspace of Romania and Moldova on February 10 during a massive Russian missile attack .Channel 24 has collected for you everything that is known about the Caliber.

The main characteristics of the Caliber missiles

< p>Caliber is a family of cruise missiles developed by the Russian design bureau Novator. The first time they were presented to the public in 1993. The aggressor country is armed with:

  • Kalibr missile systems for arming submarines;
  • missile systems for arming combat surface ships;
  • Kalibr mobile missile systems -M;
  • Kalibr-A airborne missile systems

The Caliber cruise missile has a length of 6.2 to 8.2 meters. Its mass ranges from 1.9 to 2.3 tons, including the warhead weighs from 200 to 450 kilograms, depending on the modification.

“Caliber” can hit hostile targets at different distances – from 200 to 2500 kilometers, but in export versions the range is limited to 300 kilometers. The rocket flies to the object at ultra-low altitudes – only 10 – 20 meters above the ground at a speed from 180 to 240 meters per second. Flying at low altitudes significantly complicates the work of air defense forces against these missiles. The wingspan of the rocket is more than 3 meters.

However, it should be noted that there is no exact data on these missiles – they are all classified by the enemy.

These missiles are called supersonic. The State Emergency Service explained the day before that this means that the sound of the rocket is heard along with the explosion. That is, if you hear that a rocket is flying, then there is no time to hide in a shelter.

Several thousand Russian pensions: what is the price of a Caliber rocket

The exact cost of the rocket, as well as its characteristics, is not known for certain. Russian media are spreading information that the cost of one missile for Russia is about $300,000.

At the same time, information appeared in the information space of Ukraine that the cost of the Kalibr missile was about $6.5 million. However, the publication Defense Express analyzed the data and compared with the prices of other missiles, including the American Tomahawk, worth about $ 2 million. The experts concluded that such data probably appeared due to the export agreements of these missiles to India. But the cost of the sold missiles includes not only the Caliber itself, but also maintenance, etc.

Therefore, according to experts, the cost of one missile for Russia fluctuates within one million dollars. According to official Russian data, their average pension is somewhere around 17,000 rubles. That is, by launching one such rocket, the occupiers release about 4,600 pensions of their citizens. However, it should be noted that any figures cannot be compared with the consequences of a missile hit when they claim the lives of people.

How many Calibers do Russians still have

< p> Exact information about how many Russians have these or those missiles left, perhaps, no one will name. The reason for this is the careful concealment of data by the enemy. If there is data from pre-war times, then they are not relevant and not reliable. There are several reasons – many equipment and weapons in Russia are out of order for one reason or another. However, statistics will not tell you exactly how many missiles are unusable.

In addition, Russia is trying to establish the production of missiles. However, the invaders have not yet used Kalibr missiles, which would have been manufactured in 2022. So the occupiers are still using stocks of missiles.

What can be said for sure – the enemy definitely has at least 72 more such missiles. It is precisely such a salvo that carriers of cruise missiles of the Russian naval group in the Mediterranean now have. However, the invaders do not launch missile strikes from there, because the path of these missiles would run completely through NATO territory.
