Cruelly killed homeless animals: the court finally refused to punish the dog hunter Svyatogor

by alex

For several years, there was a trial in the case of one of the most famous exterminators of stray dogs (dog hunters) Alexei Svyatogor. Actually, the Supreme Court put an end to this story, actually justifying the man who killed the animals.

It should be said that back in 2021, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv found Svyatogor not guilty, and then the Court of Appeal upheld the verdict. The decision of the Supreme Court that the prosecutor's complaint is not subject to satisfaction – that is, the decision of the capital's courts is correct – became known in early spring 2023.

The scandalous case of Svyatogor

It is important that Alexei Svyatogor was detained by law enforcement officers back in June 2019. The investigation continued under parts 2 and 3 of article 300 of the Criminal Code, which refers to the importation, production or distribution of works that promote the cult of violence and cruelty, racial, national or religious intolerance and discrimination.

According to the prosecution, in the period between March 27, 2013 and October 11, 2016, in various programs on television and radio channels of Ukraine, he expressed propaganda of violence and cruelty towards stray dogs, the Judicial Legal Newspaper wrote.

In addition, they explained the decision of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The report says that only participation in television programs at the invitation of the organizers cannot be considered the production or distribution of materials that provoke violence.

Note! Obviously, another reason why the Supreme Court decided to leave the prosecutor's cassation appeal unsatisfied is that, according to the current legislation, “propaganda of the cult of violence and cruelty” in Article 300 of the Criminal Code concerns, first of all, human relationships among themselves.

Activists took to the streets to protest

  • Without a doubt, this decision of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not please the animal rights activists, who for several years have been fighting to bring the dog hunter Svyatogor to justice.
  • They even organized rallies and various actions, in particular, lit flares under the walls of one of the capital's courts.
  • It is important that Aleksey Svyatogor himself repeatedly threatened the activists in his social networks. In particular, he “warned” that he could cut with a knife people who are not indifferent to the four-legged.
