The head of state noted that during the meeting they discussed key issues, namely: security, humanitarian aid and the creation of military commandant's offices if necessary.

– Ukraine is defending itself and the lives of its people in border communities and is conducting active operations on Russian territory. Our forces strictly comply with the requirements of international conventions and international humanitarian law, — the head of state emphasized.

Creation of a buffer zone in the Russian Federation

The meeting was attended, in particular, by the Vice Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk, who reported in her Telegram that in order to protect the border regions of Ukraine (primarily the border area of ​​Sumy region), the Defense Forces of Ukraine are creating a security zone on the territory of the Russian Federation, which is adjacent to our country.

– There are Russian civilians within the said zone. They are under the protection of international humanitarian law, which Ukraine fully complies with, — she noted.

The Ukrainian military plans to:

  • conduct humanitarian operations to support civilians within the specified zone;
  • open humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians: both towards Russia and towards Ukraine;
  • admission of international humanitarian organizations to the specified zone for the purpose of humanitarian response, as well as monitoring the humanitarian situation.

Currently, the relevant preparations are being made and consultations.
