Qualcomm has created a high-speed charging for smartphones Quick Charge 5. This publication reports ArsTechnica with reference to the materials of the company.
Standard Quick Charge provides 5 to charge a smartphone battery from zero to 50 percent in five minutes. According to the company, if the charge level is less than 50 percent, it will increase by about one percent every six seconds. Qualcomm calls a new Protocol charging “the world’s fastest commercial solution for smartphones”.
The company’s engineers was testing a new standard for devices with two-element battery capacity of 4500 milliampere-hours. According to experts from Qualcomm, when charging power of 100 watts the load is distributed evenly on both elements of the battery, approximately 50 watts each. Compared to the Quick Charge 4, a new standard of 70 percent more efficient and allows to reduce the heating temperature when charging by about ten degrees.
Qualcomm said that the new standard is compatible with USB Power Delivery, that is, it can be used not only in charging smartphones and computers. The first devices supporting Quick Charge 5 should be on sale in the third quarter of 2020.
Previously, the company Oppo has announced the release of the most powerful charging for smartphones. Technology can provide power up to 125 watts. The company did not specify which smartphones will support the new standard.
