Crazy risks: what the announcement of mobilization could mean for Russia

The Financial Times stated that mobilization in Russia before the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025 will become inevitable. However, for now this issue is very difficult for Vladimir Putin.

Former Russian Energy Minister, oppositionist Vladimir Milov told 24 Channelthat in Russia there is a huge shortage of people for various professions, which will destroy the economy. If mobilization is announced, the people will simply flee.

Not enough people to mobilize

According to Milov, the issue of mobilization is very difficult for Putin. There is no endless human resource in Russia. According to statistics, in the aggressor country there are only 20 million men between 20 and 40 years old. A quarter of them work in law enforcement agencies and the military industry. Another part of the people are abroad or are not physically able to fight.

If you look at how many men in Russia are combat-ready age that can be mobilized is not so much. This is approximately 10 million people,” noted the former Russian Minister of Energy.

This figure may seem large, but a significant number of people from there have skilled professions that are currently suffering from a shortage of personnel. Russia does not know where to get people.

There is a total shortage of drivers, which really threatens to stop the auto transport sector. Automobile transportation accounts for 70% of the cargo turnover structure, Milov added.

He also said that the incident with the bus with passengers falling into the Moika River in St. Petersburg was precisely connected with the fact that the driver was exhausted, overworked due to a shortage of workers.

A threat to the Russian economy

If Putin decides to mobilize 300,000 people, then, according to the former Russian Energy Minister, people will simply run away. That is why the Russian labor market will be left without a million people, which will be a risk. The Kremlin has wanted to carry out mobilization for a long time, but it has limited capabilities.

The number of people who have a reservation is about a million. This is an admission of the fact that these are the personnel that they cannot sacrifice for the sake of war, – Milov noted.

The former Russian Energy Minister explained that the way Russia wants to end the war requires declaring mobilization. However, this will be a big shock for the economy, it will make it impossible for the Kremlin to somehow put it in order.
