Due to the full-scale invasion of our territory by the aggressor state, Ukrainians are massively abandoning everything Russian. In particular, they want to replace the Soviet and Russian heritage with Ukrainian ones.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy stressed that de-Russification, decommunization and decolonization are timely processes in the history of Ukraine. However, they must pass in a civilized manner.

Decisions on the demolition of Soviet monuments will be approved by local authorities and society

We held public discussions and initiated the creation of an advisory body – the Council under the ICIP and the UINP, which will deal with the issues of de-Russification, decommunization and decolonization, – the Ministry of Culture said.

The department noted that the decision to dismantle monuments of the Soviet past is local self-government must approve together with the society, and then coordinate it with the Council.

The Ministry of Culture, together with the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, collected key information about the legislation in the relevant processes. The departments did this by actively clearing the public space of monuments, which are fixed in Ukraine by Russian propaganda narratives, as well as in response to a request from local authorities.

Ukraine is massively renaming streets

for the bloody and cynical war that Russia started in our state, Ukrainians no longer want to live on the streets named after Russian figures. Therefore, in cities and villages massively rename the streets. Kyiv also decided to change the names of metro stations:

  • They want to rename “Beresteyskaya” to “Buchanskaya”;
  • “Leo Tolstoy Square” – to “Vasily Stus”;
  • “Heroes of the Dnieper” – to “Heroes of Ukraine”;
  • “Minskaya” – to “Varshavskaya”;
  • “Friendship of Peoples” – to “Botanicheskaya”.

In April in the city council of Lviv presented a list of streets that also want to de-Russify. Options for new names will be chosen together with historians, experts and the general public. They will take into account the location, historical context and the opinion of Lviv residents. At present, the working group has already received more than 100 proposals from citizens with different options.

Pay attention! The Verkhovna Rada has banned the distribution of symbols of Russian occupiers in Ukraine. You can use the symbols “Z” and “V” only for purposes that do not have signs of propaganda of the Russian totalitarian regime. In particular, in museums, at thematic exhibitions and manuals and textbooks that are used in the educational process.
