David's Sling was developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Its main purpose is to intercept medium-long-range missiles and cruise missiles fired at a distance of 40 to 300 km.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense notes that David's Sling is considered one of the most advanced missile defense systems in the world. It provides multi-level missile defense. It includes the short-range Iron Dome system, as well as the long-range Strela-2 and Strela-3.

In particular, the IDF received the David’s Sling air defense system more than seven years ago. Until May 2023, it was used only once – to shoot down a missile fired from Syria.

The second time David's Sling was used was in May 2023. During another escalation with the Gaza Strip, the missile defense system shot down a missile that was aimed at Jerusalem. It costs about a million dollars to intercept one missile using David's Sling.
