Iran handed over the first batch of drones to the Russian army. We are talking about two models of Shahed drones – 129 and 191, as well as Mohajer-6.
Most likely, these weapons are already being used in the war against Ukraine. However, these samples are not ultra-modern, but rather outdated. Military expert Sergei Grabsky told channel 24 about this.
What is known about drones
It is known that Shahed is an analogue of the American MQ-1 Predator (“Predator”) ), and the Mohajer-6 is an analogue of the Switchblade, which is in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
These are copies. And they are always worse than the original. At the time of 2010 – 2012, Israel no longer produced such drones. However, this does not reduce the possible threat from this weapon, because it is a weapon. It can harm our units,
– said Grabsky.
Ukrainian army can destroy such drones
Iranian drones , of course, are serious reconnaissance means. “These are, first of all, the eyes,” Grabsky said. However, he emphasized that two aspects should be taken into account :
- The Armed Forces of Ukraine are able to destroy such systems. According to the General Staff, as of today, 847 enemy drones have already been shot down. “We are not afraid of them, we know how to work with them,” Grabsky said.
- Russia must first learn how to use them. it took months, but the Russian army has no such experience,” he said.
The organization of interaction is extremely important
The military expert noted that in the war we have today, the main thing is the organization of interaction. “These drones must interact with ground troops in order to avoid annoying surprises , for example, strikes against its troops. It's hard to say how much Russia knows how to do this,” he stressed.
Of course, there is a threat to our troops from the actions of such drones, because there will be physically more of them. Despite this, Grabsky noted, they do not pose the ultimate danger and will not create a big problem for us.
This is just another facet of the war. It goes into a kind of “call and response” philosophy. The enemy makes a challenge, and we answer. Or vice versa, he said.
Without maintenance systems, the effectiveness of UAVs decreases
The question arises: did the Russians get systems for maintenance, repair and support of these weapons along with the drones?The fact is that without them, drones can become just expensive disposable toys.
“If one machine is damaged, it is disabled and needs to be repaired. Where will they do it? If the Iranians provide the Russians with such functions and capabilities, this is one question. And if they have to be sent far to Iran or to enterprises, this is quite another matter.” The effectiveness of the use of these systems will be significantly reduced, – explained the military expert .
