On December 8, the Verkhovna Rada introduced changes to the legislation regarding national minorities in Ukraine. At the same time, the Hungarian Foreign Ministry has already responded to this decision.

The Secretary of State of the Hungarian Ministry, Tamás Menczer, emphasized that Ukraine is allegedly depriving Hungarian community since 2015. He also noted that the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs constantly monitors the process of introducing changes to legislation regarding national minorities.

The Hungarian Foreign Ministry responded to changes in the law about national minorities

On his Facebook page, Tamás Menczer hinted that the changes made to Ukrainian legislation regarding national minorities are not enough for Hungary. He emphasized that Hungarians in Ukraine “began to be deprived of their rights 8 years ago.”

Since then, the deprivation of rights has continued continuously, Menczer said .

The representative of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry stressed that the ministry, of course, will carefully evaluate the decision of the Ukrainian parliament.

“But It is already clear that it is far from returning the 2015 rights,” he said.

In addition, Menczer also noted that the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will closely monitor , so that our state introduces the changes it has made to the legislation regarding national minorities in real life.

The Verkhovna Rada has made changes to the law on national minorities

  • On December 8, the Verkhovna Rada voted to amend some laws of Ukraine regarding the rights of national minorities or communities in certain areas. 317 people's deputies voted in favor.
  • In the end, President Vladimir Zelensky signed the law on national minorities adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. In addition, the head of state also signed two other laws that bring our state closer to the start of negotiations with the European Union.
  • It should be noted that this law is needed in order to fulfill one from the recommendations provided to our state by the European Commission. They are necessary in order to bring Ukraine closer to the European community and to intensify the process of starting negotiations on our state’s accession to the European Union.
