Ukrainians should not expect challenges in relations between Ukraine and the Netherlands, despite the fact that the far-right politician from the Freedom Party, Geert Wilders, won the elections in the Dutch parliament.
President Vladimir Zelensky stated this during a press conference with the President of Latvia in Kyiv.
— As for the Netherlands: I ask you not to be shocked. We, it seems to me, are on good terms. The status of our relations today also continues and is supported by the Prime Minister (of the Netherlands Mark Rutte – Ed .). I have confidence in Rutte. I don’t think there will be any calls in the near future,” he said.
Let us recall that earlier in the elections to the Dutch parliament, the Freedom Party (PVV), led by the anti-European far-right politician Geert Wilders, won first place.

At the moment, the process of forming a coalition is taking place in the Dutch parliament, which will take some time. The current government led by Mark Rutte will remain in power until the formation of a new coalition, and the prime minister could be replaced in office, probably in mid-2024.
It is noteworthy that even at the pre-election stage, Wilders’ party talked about improving interaction with Russia and reducing assistance to Ukraine. The AP agency previously drew attention to the fact that Wilders’ election program stated that the Netherlands would not transfer military equipment to Ukraine, including F-16 aircraft.
Despite this, the current Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kajsa Ollongren, has already stated that she hopes for support for Ukraine from the next government, which is likely to be headed by Wilders. Ollongren also expects that the Netherlands will not refuse to participate in the F-16 fighter program.
