Russian Lieutenant General Yakov Rezantsev, who commanded the 49th combined arms army of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, was informed of suspicion in absentia.
According to the SBU, on his order, on February 24, 2022, Russian troops invaded the Kherson region from the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea.
It was Rezantsev who ordered the capture of the strategically important airfield in Chernobaevka at any cost.

According to his instructions, the occupiers carried out massive air attacks on the civilian infrastructure of the Kherson region.
Also, during the occupation of the right bank, Rezantsev organized mass repressions against members of the resistance movement; on his orders, people were kidnapped in the middle of the street or from cars while crossing Russian checkpoints.
Suspicion in absentia was announced against Rezantsev under Part 2 of Art. 28, part 2 art. 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (waging aggressive war committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons).
What is known about Rezantsev
It is not known for certain whether the occupier is alive, since at the end of March 2022 the Office of the President reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had eliminated Yakov Rezantsev during another attack on the legendary airfield in Chernobaevka (Kherson region).
Rezantseva was born in June 1973 in the Altai region of the Russian Federation. Commanded the 57th separate guards motorized rifle brigade of the Russian Federation, the 41st combined arms army of the Central Military District.
Since August 2020, he commanded the 49th combined arms army of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation (Stavropol). In 2021 he received the rank of lieutenant general.
Before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, he participated in military operations in Syria.
