Colorado Supreme Court bans Trump from running for president

by alex

The Colorado Supreme Court removed former US President Donald Trump from the state's 2024 ballot.

CNN reports this.

The court made this decision because the 14th Amendment to the Constitution prohibits officials who participated in “rebellion or insurrection” from holding official positions.

Judges say Trump did more than just incite insurrection on January 6, 2021, when Trump supporters breached the Capitol to challenge the results of the presidential election.

— Even as the Capitol siege was in full swing, he continued to support it, repeatedly demanding that Vice President Mike Pence refuse to do his constitutional duty and calling senators to urge them to stop the counting of election votes. These actions constituted open, voluntary and direct participation in the rebellion, — considered by the majority of judges.

The state Supreme Court's decision is stated to only affect Colorado, but it will affect the 2024 presidential campaign.

State election officials said the issue must be resolved by Jan. 5, the legal deadline for the GOP primary field to be fielded.

The Trump campaign said it “will quickly appeal” on the decision of the Colorado Supreme Court. Representatives of the ex-president called the court's decision erroneous and undemocratic.

CNN previously reported that at the end of Donald Trump's presidency, a folder that contained highly classified information related to Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election disappeared.
