Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named air defense systems with which Ukraine can protect itself from “Daggers”

During another massive missile attack on March 9, Russia actively used Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. Ukraine has no protection against them.

Anti-aircraft missile systems that can hit them should soon be received by Ukraine. Colonel of the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, pilot-instructor and military expert Roman Svitan spoke about this in the stream of Channel 24 .

What air defense systems can shoot down “Daggers”

“Dagger” – aeroballistic missile. The first degree of its acceleration is an aircraft that raises it to a certain height and accelerates it to supersonic speed. Further, the rocket rises upwards for tens of kilometers.

Then, behind the ballistic trajectory, the “Dagger” begins to descend on the target. Its speed is supersonic – close to hypersonic. That is why it is very difficult to trace it.

The systems that we have are mainly against air facilities. Here we need systems against ballistic objects. These are Patriot and SAMP/T systems. These air defense systems can also shoot down Kinzhals,” the colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained.

Here the question is only in the range of detection and destruction. The range of such anti-aircraft missile systems is approximately 35 to 45 km.

“Therefore, in order to hide from the Kinzhals, we need a lot of such complexes. Here the question is already for our partners – will they be able to transfer them to us. Both Patriot and SAMP / T,” emphasizes Roman Svitan.

He also stressed that Israel has another good anti-missile system – Hetz. The military expert is sure that we will not receive it yet, but this may be the direction of the work of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

The interlocutor also noted that the Russians also used air-launched missiles. They were all neutralized.

There were also 13 S-300 missiles. We can’t shoot these down either, because they use them in the ballistic missile mode,” said Roman Svitan.

In this case, the Russians redesigned a surface-to-air missile in such a way that missiles are launched at a certain angle, and then follow a ballistic trajectory and operate at a range of up to 150 kilometers.

Summing up, the colonel of the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that this shelling was completely stupid from a military point of view. They say that the Russians have wasted missiles in vain, and it is almost impossible to exclude Ukrainian energy, because it is already dispersed.

Russian missile attack

On the night of March 9, Russia once again massively attacked Ukraine, launching almost a hundred missiles. Among them:

  • 28 launches – Kh-101, Kh-555 cruise missiles;
  • 20 launches – Caliber missiles (of three carriers from the Black Sea);
  • 6 launches – Kh-22 supersonic missiles;
  • 6 launches – hypersonic missiles “Dagger”;
  • 8 launches – guided aircraft missiles (these are Kh-31, Kh-59, produced from the Su-35);
  • 13 launches – missiles from S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems;
  • 8 – unmanned systems “Shahid”.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was able to shoot down 34 out of 48 cruise missiles and 4 out of 8 “Shaheds”. They also organized a “certain countermeasure” to all 8 guided air missiles, so that none of them reached their goal.

Yuriy Ignat, the speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, announced for the first time on Channel 24 the information about the use of 6 hypersonic missiles “Dagger” at once.
