On the night of November 25, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Typhoon military plant in the Russian city of Kaluga with drones. This facility is large, so it is difficult to hit it with drones in a way that would disable it.

Defence Express editor-in-chief Oleg Katkov told Channel 24 what components for military equipment and missile systems are manufactured at this plant.

What does the enterprise specialize in producing

The Kaluga instrument-making plant “Typhoon” specializes in coastal missile systems. In particular, this enterprise manufactures command and communication centers for the “Bal” systems with Kh-35 missiles and combined radar stations “Monolith-B” for “Bastion” systems with “Onyx” missiles. Russia uses both of these systems to attack Ukrainian coastal cities.

The “Typhoon” plant is also listed as the final manufacturer of the coastal missile system “Rubezh-ME”.

In addition, the Russians make radar stations for ships at this facility. In particular, the surveillance radar for the Admiral Makarov-class frigates, which are armed with Kalibr missiles.

Please note! Military expert Pavel Narozhny said that the attack on the plant was combined. He suggested that the strike might have been carried out by ATACMS missiles.

What needs to be done to completely disable the plant

The Kaluga Instrument-Making Plant “Typhoon” is a fairly powerful enterprise with a staff of over 2,000 people. The plant occupies more than a few blocks. It is a city within a city. In order to disable such an enterprise, it is necessary to strike not with drones, but with more powerful weapons, for example, Tomahawk missiles, and to strike methodically.

On the other hand, if you do not strike at all, the Russians will work in comfortable conditions, build new workshops, bring in new equipment, hire people and, accordingly, produce more weapons. There is an opportunity to keep the enemy on their toes, – Katkov said.

By the way, on the night of November 24-25, the GUR, together with other units of the Defense Forces, attacked a number of important facilities of the Russian army. In particular, the oil depot of JSC Kaluga Oil Product on Grabtsevskoye Highway in Kaluga.
