Every year on May 29, Kyiv celebrates City Day. This year the holiday is different – there are no festive events, fairs and concerts. But Ukrainian politicians have been congratulating the capital and its inhabitants on the Day of Kyiv since the very morning – now the heart of Ukraine is 1540 years old.

Politicians were not stingy with greetings. Some remembered their youth and the most pleasant memories, some views of Kyiv. But almost everyone noted the heroism and courage of the capital.

Pride city: how politicians congratulated Ukrainians on Kyiv Day

Kyiv City Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko will address the people of Kyiv, congratulating them on the City Day. He noted that this is a “proud, rebellious and beautiful” city that has been standing on the hills of the Dnieper for 1540 years. The mayor stressed that the soul of the city is its people, who make the capital even better.

Happy Kyiv Day, dear Kyivans! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Kyiv! – said Klitschko.

The Kyiv city military administration also joined in the greetings. The department noted that Kyiv is not only the economic, political and spiritual center of Ukraine, but is also a real symbol of invincibility for every Ukrainian.

This is a hero city that survived during the Second World War under the invasion of the Nazis, and now survived from the Russians. Thanks to this, we can celebrate the 1540th birthday of Kyiv! And I am grateful to everyone who gives a worthy rebuff to the Russian occupiers, – they wrote in the KMVA.

They thanked everyone who gives a fitting rebuff to the Russian occupiers and, above all, wished the people of Kiev victory and peace. This year there will be no Chestnut Run, a concert on the Independence Square and a flower exhibition on the Singing Field, but the CMVA promised to do all this in the future.

Also, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Oleg greeted the people of Kiev in his telegram channel Nemchinov. He published a photo of the panorama of the capital and wrote “Happy Kyiv Day”.

Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko noted that celebrating the day of Kyiv against the backdrop of ruins is somewhat strange. Since February 24, a lot has changed both in the life of every resident of Ukraine and in the life of the capital. And although the city still hurts, it comes to life every day: establishments, exhibitions, cultural events are opening, people are returning home and trees are blooming.

Kyiv will definitely stand. He has already survived. How the whole of Ukraine will stand,” wrote Tkachenko.

The Minister published a poignant video in which the orchestra performs “How can I not love you, my Kyiv” against the backdrop of buildings destroyed by Russia.

Head of the Supreme Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk recalled that the French writer Honore de Balzac called Kyiv an eternal city. This is a hero city that can take a hit. The politician noted that the heart of Ukraine is unbending, strict, rebellious and beautiful.

This year Kyiv has become a new home for many. It crosses hundreds of paths and connects all of us. The city is home. The city is a symbol. The city is pride. Thanks to everyone who is making efforts to protect and prosper Kyiv in this difficult time. Victory to you, city of chestnut happiness. Hold on, dear!, Stefanchuk wrote.

The Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov has published a short video with landscapes of the city. It shows such beautiful, but at the same time simple and native corners of our capital. Fedorov wrote that everyone is proud of Kyiv's courage.

Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska also posted a video of the city living during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and coming to life as a result of enemy missile strikes. Rockets have broken through the walls of the capital and mutilated the streets, but Kyiv has learned to listen to air raid alerts, equip bomb shelters, work under fire and continues to help those who are worse off.

You are already so many years old … When will you have to live in peace? “I survived all these wars, I will survive this one. I survived those enemies, I will survive these ones,” you smile. And here is your day. Even during the war you greet him with flowers and chestnuts. How not to love you, our Kyiv!?, – wrote Elena Zelenskaya.

Ukroboronprom also could not resist congratulating. The company remembered the beautiful views and bridges of Kyiv, chestnuts, “evening” sweets and a delicious cake. Over the 1540 years of its existence, Kyiv has experienced many historical events, tragic and happy.

How courageously stood for 78 days during the Kyiv defense operation in 1943. As he held the whole of Ukraine on his shoulders during the Revolution of Dignity. How hospitably hosted Eurovision and football fans around the world. And now, in terrible times for the country, how proudly you look at the enemy … Happy Birthday, Kyiv! You are very important to us,” Ukroboronprom wrote.

The press service published a photo of how the capital of a strong state lives during a full-scale war:
