The occupiers have been actively storming Soledar in recent days. They actually demolish the city with artillery. However, they are still far from achieving their strategic goals in this region.
This was told to Channel 24 by a military expert, instructor pilot and colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the reserve Roman Svitan. According to him, the main task of the invaders in this sector of the front is to take Bakhmut under control. It prevents the Russians from moving forward to Kramatorsk in order to at least partially fulfill the strategic goal of reaching the borders of the Donetsk region.
Bakhmut is like a stone for them. They cannot pass it, because there are very good fortifications. That's why they want to bypass it. From the south, they ran into our defensive redoubts near Kurdyumovka. Therefore, they tried to go around from the north and ran into Soledar and the defense line running along the Bakhmutka River, Svitan noted.
The river leaves Bakhmut and goes towards Seversky. Such a natural redoubt and the efforts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine keep the Russians from cordoning off Bakhmut.
What's going on in Soledar
As Svitan noted, the Ukrainian defenders have a very well equipped defense line near Bakhmut, Soledar and neighboring settlements. According to him, the military is now holding back the invaders in the Soledar area and along the entire line of confrontation along Bakhmutka.
However, according to Svitan, in the next few days, in all likelihood, the command will try to make certain decisions regarding Soledar.
I think that in the coming days the command will make a decision either to draw a new front line, or to keep Bakhmutka as a frontier, or they will leave the line of confrontation inside Soledar itself. Although the Russians are now practically comparing its artillery to the ground,” Svitan said.
