China's “peace initiatives” have positive for Ukraine – Sheitelman

by alex

On February 24, China presented its “peace plan” to resolve the war in Ukraine. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about it. He does not consider China's initiative a “peace plan”, but he sees positive things in them.

This offer to China not only has nothing bad for Ukraine, but also a lot of positive if you look at it accordingly. Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman told Channel 24 about this.

He believes that this 12-point initiative to Beijing cannot be called a “peace plan” – this is China's position. After all, such a superpower as China should have a position on such an important issue as the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“However, Beijing is not trying to be a mediator – China's chief diplomat Wang Yi did not come to Ukraine, there was no phone call from Xi Jinping,” the political strategist said.

There is room for diplomacy

He noted that the position of the PRC, which was published on February 24, Ukraine can use in its own interests.

Remember how many disputes there were about the sequence in which the “Minsk agreements” were to be implemented. And now Ukraine can notice that the first point in China's “peace plan” is “the restoration of territorial integrity within the borders recognized by the UN,” Sheitelman noted.

In his opinion, Ukraine can agree to this plan if Russia fulfills the first point and withdraws its troops from our territory to the 1991 borders. And then you can proceed to the next steps.

“Ukraine can support China's plan, but when its points are consistently implemented. And if both the United States and Europe support it, then China will have to join it. There is ground for a diplomatic game. And I am sure that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is doing this “, – stressed the political strategist.

Ukraine can include China in the sphere of its interests

At the same time, Russia, commenting on China's initiatives, notes that it sees no opportunity for negotiations with Ukraine.

But the negotiations in China's “peace plan” are item number 4. Let the Russians fulfill the first three points, and then the turn will come to negotiations,” he stressed.

According to the interlocutor, it is clear that Russia will not agree to this “peace plan”, but this is not important.

For Ukraine, it is important to use this “peace plan” to gather the maximum coalition and include China in its sphere of interests, which, as a result of negotiations, can support the Ukrainian “peace formula,” the political strategist noted.

Mikhail Sheitelman believes that then it will be possible to squeeze Russia into a corner, cut off the possibility of supplying it with weapons from China and completely isolate the aggressor country, in particular, along the Chinese border.

China's “peace plan”: world reaction

  • US President Joe Biden rejected China's proposed “peace plan”. The US President noted that its implementation will only benefit Russia. He noted that if Putin applauds this, how can it be good?
  • NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, commenting on China's “position document” on Russia's war against Ukraine, stressed that China does not enjoy much credibility because it could not condemn the illegal invasion of Ukraine, and also signed an agreement a few days before the invasion between President Xi and Putin about unlimited partnership with Russia.
  • Russia supported the proposals of the PRC. The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stressed that Russia shares the views of Beijing and is open to achieving the goals of the NWO through political and diplomatic means. She added that several points should be added to the “peace plan”. In particular, Zakharova demands the lifting of all sanctions and the withdrawal of all lawsuits against Russia.
