The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, called on China to influence Russia to stop a full-scale war in Ukraine.
Borrell raised the issue of relations between the EU and China during a meeting with a Chinese representative on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum in Laos.
What influence does China have on Russia
The EU representative noted that China's support for Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine “negatively affects relations between the EU and China”.

He also expressed concern about the fact that China exports a large number of goods and dual-use items to Russia appointments.
In his opinion, China is thus supporting Russia in building up its military equipment.
– The High Representative called on China to use its influence on Russia to help end the war. He asked China to support the peace process in Ukraine and believes that the joint statement (on peace in Ukraine, – ed.) with Brazil from May 2024 does not go in this direction, – the message on the website of the European External Action Service notes.
Josep Borrell also raised the issue of bilateral trade. In this context, he noted that excessive state subsidies from China are causing distortions in the EU market.
According to the EU High Representative, China must also address the root causes of its unbalanced trade relations with the EU by rebalancing its economy.
