Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the United States on November 15 for the first time in six years. In San Francisco he is scheduled to meet with US President Joseph Biden.

It is important that the negotiations between the leaders of the two most influential states in the world are aimed at achieving a certain result. Expert of the Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism” Alexander Kraev told Channel 24 that this is evidenced by the careful preparation of the meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping, which lasted almost half a year.

According to all the canons of diplomacy

Preparations for the meeting followed all the canons of classical diplomacy. First, negotiations took place at the level of deputy delegations. Then – at the level of deputy ministers of foreign affairs and deputy ministers of defense. Next, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in the United States. Now the meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping is finally taking place.

It is obvious that these negotiations are aimed at achieving a certain result, new agreements, settling and strengthening trust between the two states. – Kraev emphasized.

Today it is clear that China is not ready to provide military assistance to Russia. If it came, it was from private Chinese companies, which immediately fell under American sanctions. Help also came from North Korea.

The United States probably conveyed to China the idea that it should not provide assistance to Russia. It turned out that economic cooperation with Washington is much more interesting and profitable for Beijing.

The two sides of the new Cold War do not agree politically, ideologically and have certain mutual economic claims. However, they are ready to communicate and create new rules of the international game. Unlike Russia, the United States and China understand that no one needs a big war, noted an expert at the Ukrainian Prism Foreign Policy Council.

China has always responded to these Russian statements

These negotiations between the leaders of the US and China on the ideal development of events should be part of a whole series of meetings at the level of ministerial delegations. In particular, defense ministers, because the issue of military cooperation is the most critical and covers issues of Ukraine, Taiwan, and the Middle East.

In this sense, one should expect from these negotiations, first of all, a certain understanding of China’s position towards Russia and a demonstration of its intention that Beijing is not going to fully help Moscow. – Kraev emphasized.

China has powerful leverage over Russia in restraining it from using weapons of mass destruction. In 2022, as soon as Russia threatened with nuclear weapons or the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant escalated, China always reacted.

“Beijing emphasized that such a development is unacceptable. Now it must once again confirm this position. It will be fundamentally important for Ukraine if China becomes a political player that will restrain Russia from expanding aggression,” noted Alexander Kraev.

Meeting between Joseph Biden and Xi Jinping

• The Chinese leader began a visit to the United States on November 15. The purpose of his visit is to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Although the main point of his visit will be a meeting with the US President.
• Joseph Biden and Xi Jinping are due to hold talks regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Also, according to White House National Security Speaker John Kirby, the heads of the United States and China will touch upon the issue of US support for Ukraine in its opposition to Russian aggression.
• Kirby stressed that Beijing can make efforts to help Washington in its support of Kyiv and the dissemination of Vladimir Zelensky's position on resolving the war in Ukraine.
