Despite official statements about neutrality, China continues to help Russia in the war against Ukraine. Direct deliveries of weapons from Beijing to Moscow have not been recorded, but China willingly sells dual-use goods.

The West does not want to complicate relations with China too much. However, there is an effective method to influence Beijing’s position. Political scientist, president of the Politika analytical center Oleg Lesnoy told more about him Channel 24 .

“Active neutrality”

Mrs. US Ambassador to NATO Juliana Smith accused China of helping Russia to achieve its military goals in Ukraine. Beijing continues to sell drone technology and gunpowder components to Moscow. According to Smith, China has chosen its side and does not claim neutrality in the war.

China wants, as they themselves said, to be “active neutrality”. But neutrality cannot be active or passive. The country should not interfere or help either side. China doesn’t do that, it helps Russia,” Oleg Lesnoy emphasized.

So, Beijing does not provide Russia with direct military assistance, but sells dual-use goods, which has long been proven. In particular, the media recently published information that China allowed a ship from the DPRK to “hide” on its territory, which was transporting weapons for Russia. It is impossible to call this a “neutral act.”

“China is trying to save the face of a country that is “for everything good and against everything bad.” But we clearly understand that they and Russia are “of the same blood.” China is an authoritarian regime that considers its main mission fight with the West. Therefore, he does everything that is beneficial to him, and at the same time to Russia,” explained the political scientist.

China helps circumvent sanctions and provides certain equipment to the Kremlin. Since Russia is now focused only on war, it is obvious that any supplies from China are used specifically for this. Undoubtedly, in this context China cannot be considered a neutral party.

How to influence China

At the same time, the West does not want to quarrel with China. World leaders are convinced that because of Beijing's influence on the Kremlin, it will be possible to use it for certain peacekeeping roles and the like.

No matter how brave they pretend to be, they are still afraid of sanctions. Because the lion’s share of their income comes not from trade with Russia, but with the United States and Europe,” Lesnoy noted.

It is precisely such leverage that can be used against China. After all, Beijing really reacts very painfully to sanctions and does not want to encounter additional restrictions for large enterprises with big names.
