Joe Biden and Xi Jinping on November 22 refused to participate in the G20 online summit, at which Vladimir Putin spoke. This could have been a demonstrative “spit” on the Russian president.

Russian human rights activist Mark Feigin commented on the incident to Channel 24 . According to him, despite the same behavior, the American and Chinese leaders could have different motivations.

“The fact that Biden did not take part in this communication precisely because of Putin’s participation in it is indisputable. Xi Jinping, I think, is simply participating in a certain game. Like, if the United States is not participating, then why waste time on trifles and stoop to participate with everyone else,” Feigin suggested.

According to the Russian human rights activist, China considers itself equal to the United States and is trying to demonstrate this in every possible way. Although the United States has a different attitude towards the country, continuing to consider it to belong to the “second world”.

China distances itself from Russia

“We see that Beijing is now trying to draw some distance from Moscow, because it is becoming more and more unpredictable,” Feigin noted.

Thus, China does not want to be held accountable for Russia’s actions. Moreover, the aggressor country is becoming more and more dependent on it, so it still won’t go anywhere. China is betting on the United States, but everything can change at any moment.

What was the G20 online summit like: highlights

  • Advisor to the head of the OPU, Mikhail Podolyak, emphasized that key countries were not present at the G20 summit, even in a virtual format. Thus, Vladimir Putin is no match for Joe Biden and Xi Jinping.
  • At the same time, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was present. He called on Putin to withdraw troops from Ukraine “so that this war can finally end.”
  • At the same time, the Russian president did not say anything new. He once again pushed the thesis of “peace negotiations” in order to resume aggression in the near future.
