The massacre was the result of the gang leader's suspicions of witchcraft.
In Cite Soleil, Haiti, the Wharf Jeremie gang committed a massacre, killing at least 110 man.
This was reported by DW, citing a statement from the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) of Haiti.
The leader of the gang, Monel “Mikano” Felix, began to suspect that his child, who died on December 7, was harmed by witchcraft. The reason for these suspicions was Felix's appeal to a voodoo priest for advice, to whom he turned because of the child's illness. The priest accused a group of elderly people of allegedly harming the child with the help of magic. As a result, Felix gave the order to carry out a mass murder.
Reports note that members of the Wharf Jeremie gang killed at least 60 people on Friday and another 50 on Saturday, using machetes and knives. According to human rights activists, all the victims were over 60 years old.
The gang established strict control, in particular, limiting the use of mobile phones, which prevented local residents from spreading information about the massacre.
Recall that gang members broke into the city of Pont-Sonde in western Haiti and killed at least 70 people. More than 6,000 people were forced to flee.
