The date when Ukrainian women of certain professions will have to register with the military will be postponed. In addition, the government is considering making it not a duty, but a right.
Fyodor Venislavsky, MP, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, spoke about this during a press briefing, Channel 24 reports. He explained whether Ukrainian women need to register for military service on October 1.
The order on military registration of women will be changed
Venislavsky said that the Committee on National security, defense and intelligence is in close communication with the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
And we have 100% confidence that in the coming days, and this was promised at the highest level, implied at the level of the Minister of Defense, changes will be made to the last order of the Minister of Defense on the lists of precisely these specialties that can be replaced by women, and date 1 October will be postponed to a later date, – said the people's deputy.
According to him, there are also ongoing discussions about what kind of military specialties should be left for women who will be registered with the military.
“The discussion is to determine whether registration will be a duty or the right of women. The vast majority of people's deputies and members of the committee, when discussing the legislative initiative, and in parallel with that, the Ministry of Defense, will develop changes to this order,” Venislavsky added.
He noted that the Verkhovna Rada would soon consider the bill proposed by the Committee to be considered as a basis in the first reading. It says that only women with a military medical profession should be registered , that is, a related profession of a military doctor.
“That is, in fact, all female doctors should to become a military registration without fail,” the people's deputy explained.
According to him, the draft law provides for an exclusively voluntary procedure for military registration . At the same time, during the discussion at the Committee, discussions continued whether it was worth making it a duty.
“There is no final answer to this question yet, but it is definitely necessary to reassure all women. No negative consequences there won’t be any from October 1. The Ministry of Defense will change the procedure for military registration. This will be postponed, first of all, it will be done on a voluntary basis,” Venislavsky emphasized.
He summed up that everything will be determined by law, which will be adopted in the next calendar period. Probably even this month.
