The city of Jasper, where the national park of the same name is located, is engulfed in flames. Meanwhile, authorities are giving disappointing forecasts. The wildfire that has destroyed hundreds of structures in the city of Jasper is the largest in a century. Authorities say it could burn for a long time. At least three months. Despite significant rainfall in the region, the flames are still raging. More than 20,000 people in and around the city, located in the Alberta Rocky Mountains, were ordered to evacuate on the evening of July 22 due to fast-moving wildfires. Parks Canada said 358 of the city's 1,113 structures had been destroyed. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said Jasper residents would be allowed to return home for at least 28 days. Meanwhile, in British Columbia, where 385 fires are burning, officials say the province's fire danger is improving thanks to rain and cooler temperatures.
