Canada imposes additional sanctions against aggressor countries. Under the ban will be 6 individuals and 46 legal entities associated with the defense sector of Russia.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced new sanctions measures. He added that Canada has coordinated efforts with the US, UK and Japan to ban the import of certain gold goods from Russia.

Trudeau stressed that Canada is committed to unite to support the government and people of Ukraine in their struggle for a peaceful, prosperous and democratic future.

We will continue to stand side by side with Ukraine when it seeks to defend itself against Russian aggression, the Prime Minister of Canada emphasized.

Provides for additional sanctions from Canada

  • Imposition of restrictions on 6 individuals and 46 entities associated with the Russian defense sector;
  • Imposition of sanctions against 15 Ukrainians supporting the Russian occupation of Ukraine and 13 individuals and 2 entities from Belarus;
  • A ban on the export of advanced technology that could be used in weapons development to Belarus, as well as a ban on the export and import of a wide range of luxury goods.

The Prime Minister also announced Canada's intention to impose sanctions on state-sponsored disinformation and propaganda agents and organizations controlled by high-ranking Russian government officials to counter the Kremlin's disinformation that it has used to justify its unjustified and unprovoked war in Ukraine.

< p> Finally, in coordination with the United States, Britain and Japan, the Prime Minister announced Canada's intention to impose a ban on the import of certain gold goods from Russia, excluding this commodity from official international markets and further isolating Russia from international markets.

The day before, on June 27, within the framework of the G7 summit, the leaders of the participating countries stated that they were also ready to limit Russia's income, in particular from gold . The US Treasury is expected to decide to ban new gold imports to the US, which will prevent Russia from participating in the official gold market.

At the same time, the G7 will commit to helping Ukraine cover a short-term budget financing gap, including US$7.5 billion commitment.
