Germany's position on the supply of weapons to Ukraine has moved off the ground. Now they have announced that they are ready to transfer Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns to the Ukrainian army.

The head of the Center for Military Legal Research Alexander Musienko spoke about the features of such weapons on the air of Channel 24. He noted that one of the largest defense concerns and enterprises in Germany, Rheinmetall, produces Gepard.

Defense and attack

According to him, the enterprise provided a number of positions of what they are ready to send to Ukraine. In particular, these are Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns, Leopard tanks and armored vehicles.

As for Gepard. Such a self-propelled mount can be used both for defense and offensive,” Musienko noted.

As the expert said, such a mount has two 35-millimeter rapid-fire cannons. The ammunition load includes 640 shells with a range of up to 4 kilometers to destroy air targets and 40 armor-piercing shells intended for firing at ground targets.

Musienko explained that on the front line such a self-propelled gun would protect our troops well from enemy attack aircraft, which, as a rule, fly at low altitudes (3-4 kilometers). According to him, these could be military helicopters or military attack aircraft.

He also added that some NATO armies use Gepard in combination with Stinger or other man-portable air defense systems. Thus, the former are able to control the airspace and, with the help of the latter, hit several targets.
