The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has amended the rules for booking military personnel, allowing the booking of priests of religious organizations.
The relevant changes are provided for by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1498 of December 26, 2024.

According to the document, reservation is subject to clergy who hold positions approved by the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolicy and Freedom of Conscience.

Up to 50% of priests of each religious organization can be reserved.
Unlike employees of critically important enterprises, clergy are exempt from the requirement that only those whose salary is 20 thousand UAH and above.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) Svyatoslav Shevchuk stated that the current legislation did not provide any benefits for clergy.
He said that he himself received all the necessary military registration documents and updated his data at the territorial recruitment center.
Currently, there are three largest religious organizations operating in Ukraine:
- Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU),
- Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC);
- Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP).
As of today, about 350 military chaplains serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
