Bulgaria sent billions of dollars worth of weapons to Ukraine. Aid has been transferred through other countries over the past two years.
At the same time, there was no direct agreement between Ukraine and Bulgaria. By the way, Bulgaria is also resuming the production of 122-millimeter shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What is known about the transfer of weapons by Bulgaria to Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has not entered into direct agreements with Bulgarian companies. However, last year alone, Bulgaria sent weapons worth at least $1 billion to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
So, for two years, Bulgaria supplied Ukraine through intermediary countries, in particular through the USA, Great Britain and Poland.
According to former Acting Defense Minister Velizar Shalamanov, Bulgarian companies do not sell weapons and ammunition directly to Ukrainian companies, as there is a practice when this happens due to foreign programs.
There is a well funded program in the UK, USA and Poland. Because of this program, weapons are bought that are necessary for Ukraine, that is, the money is not Ukrainian, but British, American, Polish or European. Therefore, it is bought through other companies. In addition, logistics is important, and it is mainly organized through Poland and is the responsibility of those companies that buy on the Bulgarian market. Shalamanov noted.
How Bulgaria secretly transferred weapons to Ukraine
Earlier it was reported that weapons, ammunition and other weapons were transferred to Ukraine through third countries. It is known that our state received a huge amount of equipment from Bulgaria in the period from April to August 2022.
Thus, it was possible to cover a third of the needs of our troops in ammunition. The state also helped to provide up to 40% of tanks and vehicles. In addition, they gave us diesel fuel.
