Budget expenses cannot be avoided: Malyuska on the cost of a new camp for Russian prisoners

To open a new camp for Russian prisoners in Ukraine, several million hryvnia will have to be allocated from the state budget.

This was stated by Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska on the air of the United News telethon.

He noted that Ukraine counts on the help of international partners in this matter. Because the first camp for Russian prisoners was equipped with the help of Canada and the Red Cross.

However, certain expenses will also be required from the Ukrainian budget.

– We hope that this (international assistance – Ed .) will take place in our new prisoner of war camp. We will not be able to completely avoid budget expenses. We think that we will need to spend several million hryvnia on the development of project documentation, and then our Western partners will take over,” Malyuska emphasized.

According to the minister, Ukraine has no guarantees that the new camp “will actually function for a long time.” This depends on the intensity of prisoner exchanges and their scale. But there is now a need for a new camp.

– According to our calculations, the camp will be needed in the near future, because the number of prisoners of war is growing every day. It’s big,” noted Malyuska.

What is known about the new prison camp

At the beginning of November, information appeared that due to the large number of Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine, a new camp would be opened to hold them.

The camp for the occupiers will be located deep in the rear, as provided for by the Geneva Conventions.

Conditions will be created there in accordance with the requirements of international humanitarian law. Russian prisoners of war will be provided with medical care, three meals a day, communication with relatives, and representatives of the Red Cross will also be allowed to visit them.

This is fundamentally different from the horrific conditions in which the Russian Federation holds Ukrainian prisoners of war.
