Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that their government intends to pay for Russian gas in rubles. At the same time, the country allegedly will not violate EU sanctions.
According to Szijjártó, contractual relations between MVM subsidiary CEEnergy and Gazpromexport subsidiary of Gazprom, as well as technical negotiations of the last few days, allow paying for gas as required by the supplier, without violating EU sanctions.
As the Hungarian Foreign Minister noted, in practice this will mean that the state will open 2 accounts in Gazprombank: one in euros, the other in rubles.
The Hungarian government pays the bank in euros, and the bank converts the euros into rubles, which are then sent to Gazpromexport.
