The day before, a video circulated around the network of how Polish paramedics evacuate a Ukrainian soldier wounded in the head from Soledar. One of the paramedics, Damian Duda, reassured him on the way with the words: “everything will be fine, brother, you will live.” The fighter survived, but his chances of survival plummeted along the way.
This was no ordinary evacuation, it was a competition against time and death. It was handed over to us by Ukrainian mortarmen. Wounded, he was bleeding and breathing heavily, vital parameters were constantly falling. I turned him over on his side so he could breathe. Fortunately, we managed to take him, he survived,” said Damian.
Help. Damian Duda is an art historian from Warsaw who has chosen the path of a paramedic. He has been in Syria and Iraq, and has traveled to the Ukrainian front since 2014. Now he is evacuating the wounded in the Bakhmut direction and is amazed at how courageous the Ukrainian defenders are.
