Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is currently on a tour of Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda and the Republic of the Congo. The aggressor plans to blame the West for the food crisis, having received the support of African countries.

Africa should help blame the West

Russia will likely try to use the visits to blame the West for the international food crisis and win the support of African states that have otherwise remained neutral about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the report says.

Russia has long trying to influence Africans. It has been making significant efforts since 2014 to ensure influence throughout Africa, often using Wagner as one of its favorite instruments of influence in the region.

Russia, perhaps, first of all, it cooperates with Africa, because it believes that this will strengthen the identity of the “Great State” that Russia aspires to, writes the British Ministry of Defense.

It is also noted that Russia has other, secondary reasons. In particular, the aggressor wants to obtain commodity concessions, convince African states to vote in accordance with Russia's interests in international forums.

Help. A concession is an agreement on the transfer of natural resources, enterprises, and other economic facilities owned by the state for temporary operation to other states.
