British intelligence assessed the first protest of relatives of Russian military personnel in Moscow

On November 7, 2023, the wives of Russian soldiers held what was likely the first public street protest in Moscow since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense.

Protesters gathered on the central Theater Square and unfurled posters demanding that their men be taken away from the front line.

Since February 2022, daily examples have appeared on social networks of Russian wives and mothers posting online messages protesting the conditions of service of their loved ones.

British intelligence noted that Russian legislation still prevents relatives of military personnel from uniting into an influential lobbying force, as soldiers' mothers did during the war in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

The police dispersed the protest in a matter of minutes. However, the situation itself attracted attention.

“It is obvious that endlessly long combat duty of personnel without rotation is increasingly perceived as unviable by both the servicemen themselves and their relatives,” the report says.

Earlier, Ukrainian intelligence reported the defeat of two radar stations in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
