Lendo Norris won a wet and tense British Grand Prix by 6.8 seconds over Oscar Piastri .
His McLaren team-mate Piastri lost his chance of winning after being given a 10-second penalty for an infringement during the slow-motion Formula 1 race when the safety car was on track.

Thanks to it, the British driver reduced the gap with Piastri in the overall championship standings to eight points. Nico Hulkenberg took third place and climbed to the podium in Formula 1 for the first time in his career, which includes 239 races. Hulkenberg lost to the leader by 34.7 seconds.
Piastri took the lead on lap 8 in the rain, passing Max Verstappen, but was later given a 10-second penalty for driving dangerously before the race restart on lap 21, when the safety car was on track.
The McLaren driver braked hard on the Gangar straight, forcing Verstappen, who was running second, to take evasive action and pass Piastri to avoid a collision.
The stewards' decision and consequences
According to article 55.15 of the FIA Sporting Regulations, “car #81 (Piastri – ed.) must be driven at a speed that does not involve heavy braking or any other manoeuvre that could endanger other drivers after the Safety Car signal has been extinguished.”
“The actions of car #81 were a clear breach of this article. In accordance with the penalty provisions, we have imposed a 10-second penalty on car #81,” the stewards said in a statement.
Verstappen spun inside the track exiting Stowe before the restart and ended up in tenth position, losing a place immediately after the race resumed.
The incident allowed Norris to move into second place and he only had to stay within 10 seconds of Piastri to win, as he had to serve a pit stop penalty on lap 43.
Formula 1 race final
During the final round of pit stops, the drivers switched from intermediate (weather) tyres to slicks. Piastri almost lost control of his car when he was carried out into the safety zone at Maggots corner after leaving the pit lane.
The Australian, considering the punishment unfair, asked the team to swap positions before the finish, but was refused.
Norris finished six seconds clear of Piastri, with Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg third, 21 seconds back, and five seconds clear of Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton in fourth.
