Great Britain has become a leader in the context of supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia. To a large extent, she was able to take this position thanks to Brexit – leaving the European Union in 2020.

If the UK was still in the EU, there would be no such support

Andrey Piontkovsky, a Russian publicist, told Channel 24 about this. He noted that Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who resigned yesterday, on July 7, had a huge initiative on the issue of the UK leaving the EU.

Piontkovsky admitted that at first Brexit upset him, because the publicist was always supporter of European unity. However, he admits that if the UK were still a member of the EU, it would not be possible to outline its position so sharply. state, – the publicist is convinced.

He expressed the hope that with the resignation of Johnson in this context, nothing will change. After all, according to Piontkovsky, he was ready to go very far, much further than other European countries and even the United States.

The publicist recalled that it was the United Kingdom, led by Johnson, who put forward 2 extremely important initiatives in the most difficult time for Ukraine.

First of all, we are talking about creating a military alliance of Great Britain, Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic states. This is the so-called coalition of the willing or a coalition of consonants. As Piontkovsky explained, seeing the hesitation, uncertainty and position of the EU that the main task of the union is to prevent escalation and avoid a clash with Russia, Britain decided to create a coalition of countries ready to fight and fight.

His 2- With this initiative, Great Britain “stands up” for Ukraine when Putin began to actively threaten possible nuclear strikes on our territory. Such statements are absolute savagery from the point of view of military affairs and humanity. Johnson said that Britain would respond to such actions by Russia.
