The Pentagon spoke out regarding the events in the Kursk region of Russia. The US Department of Defense noted that the “breakthrough” of the Russian border in the Kursk region is not an escalation of the war.

This was stated during a briefing by Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of Defense Sabrina Singh. She also noted that the events in the Kursk region do not violate US policy on the use of their weapons on Russian territory, reports 24 Channel.

How the Pentagon commented on the “breakthrough” of the border in Russia

The Pentagon reminded that Ukraine is fighting for its sovereign territory, which has been invaded by its neighbor. So, if there is a need to de-escalate tensions, as has been said from the beginning, the best way to do that is for Putin to make a decision today to withdraw troops from Ukraine.

Ukraine is going to do everything it can to continue to take back its sovereign territory. And that's what we see them doing in this, you know, Kursk region, Singh said.

The United States has consistently supported Ukraine in its efforts to defend itself from cross-border attacks. The Pentagon deputy spokesperson also stressed that the Ukrainians are taking steps to protect themselves from attacks coming from the region, and this is within the framework of US policy regarding where they can conduct operations

The US Defense Department representative noted that the Pentagon will still continue to support Ukraine with the capabilities and systems it needs.

“We do not believe that this is an escalation in any way. Ukraine is doing what it needs to do to achieve success in the fight,” she stressed.

It is worth noting that neither the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, nor any of the official representatives of the Ukrainian government confirmed involvement in the “breakthrough” of the border in the Kursk region.

By the way, Earlier, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that American officials had reached out to their Ukrainian counterparts to better understand the situation regarding the Kursk region. At the same time, Kirby declined to provide any comments regarding these events, noting that it would be better for Ukrainian government officials to speak about this.
