UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, that the world needs peace in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Ukraine and Sudan.

“Ambitious” calls for peace from Guterres are quoted by Reuters. Channel 24 collected quotes from the Secretary General, as well as other eloquent actions that he distinguished himself with in Russia on UN Day.

Appeals for Peace

“We need peace throughout the world… We need peace in Ukraine. A just peace in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and UN General Assembly resolutions,” Guterres said.

At the same time, he said that “the peace machinery should be strengthened and updated,” which includes reforms aimed at ensuring that the UN Security Council reflects the modern world.

Note that the world celebrates International United Nations Day on October 24. Therefore, the UN's participation in the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, seems at the very least cynical. President Volodymyr Zelensky called this a violation of the United Nations Charter.

Moreover, the UN Secretary General rejected Ukraine's invitation to the first Global Peace Summit in Switzerland.

Guterres bowed low to dictators

Russian media also published outrageous photos of Guterres from the summit. In one of them, you can see that he is quite friendly to Russian President Putin. Guterres shakes his hand and seems to bow to show his respect.

Calls for peace in Ukraine and a handshake with Putin are incompatible, and Guterres obviously does not understand this.

He also had a nice meeting with another dictator – the illegitimate Belarusian President Vladimir Lukashenko. In the video, the politicians even hug. It seems that Guterres showed his true position and understanding of the “world” at the summit in Russia.

UN Secretary General's visit to Kazan: main points

Antonio Guterres arrived in Kazan on the day the three-day BRICS summit began, on October 23. The Internet criticized a photo of Guterres, where during the official part of the meeting, the Russians treated him to a loaf of bread. In particular, the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, asked whether the bread was made from stolen Ukrainian grain.

Before this, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry criticized the idea of the UN Secretary General's visit for accepting an invitation from Russian dictator Putin. According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, this harms the reputation of the UN and does not contribute to peace.
