Participants at the Ukraine-NATO Council meeting agreed to increase military assistance to Kyiv, in particular, and provide additional air defense systems.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this at a press conference following the meeting.
Strengthening Ukrainian air defense
— NATO Defense Ministers agreed to strengthen and provide further military support, including enhanced air defence, — he said.
It is indicated that the Alliance has compiled a list of available resources and among them there are systems that can be provided to Ukraine.
Now watching
— Therefore, I expect new announcements about air defense assistance to Ukraine in the near future, — added the Secretary General.
Stoltenberg also welcomed Germany’s decision to provide Ukraine with an additional Patriot air defense system. According to him, partners can transfer other systems to our country, such as the SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile system.
In addition, many allies who do not have available systems have offered to provide funds to purchase them.
— We are also working with industry to ramp up production and repair of systems to make them operational and ready for use, — stressed the head of NATO.
NATO defense ministers also discussed 155mm projectiles, long-range capabilities and drones to strengthen the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Stoltenberg noted that each country will decide for itself what to transfer.
— Several allies made specific commitments during the meeting and are now finalizing contributions, which I expect will be announced shortly, — added the Secretary General.
Patriot for Ukraine
Russia continues to strike civilians and critical infrastructure in Ukraine. Against this background, our state needs more air defense systems and missiles for them.
April 13, Germany decided to supply Ukraine with the third Patriot air defense system.
April 18, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Ukraine could receive six more Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to strengthen its air defense system.
