Both Russia and Ukraine will have to give in, says future US Secretary of State on the war Margarita Voloshina

US Senator Marco Rubio, whom President-elect Donald Trump has announced as a nominee for the post of US Secretary of State, said that in order to end the war in Ukraine, both Kyiv and Moscow.

The American official made the corresponding statement on Wednesday, January 15, during hearings in the US Senate. This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to European Pravda.

What Marco Rubio said about the war

Commenting on the issue of a potential end to the war in Ukraine, the American senator admitted that it would be difficult. At the same time, he expressed his conviction that Ukraine would not be able to push Russia back completely, and that enemy troops, in turn, would not seize the entire territory of our state.

It is important to remain realistic: concessions will be necessary – both from Russia and from the Ukrainians… It is important that there be some balance on both sides, he said.

According to him, the Ukrainians are fighting too hard, and the country is too big, so the Russians will not be able to seize it completely. According to the official, Ukraine is running out of “not money, but Ukrainians.”

“But it is also unrealistic to believe that somehow a country the size of Ukraine… can push these people back to where they were before the invasion,” Rubio said.

He acknowledges that both sides have leverage they could use to strengthen their positions in possible future peace talks. At the same time, Rubio suggests that Putin may “impose neutrality” on Ukraine, as the Kremlin may regain strength and return in 4-5 years.

In addition to the above, Marco Rubio criticized the current US administration for its attitude towards the war in Ukraine, as he believes that Joe Biden did not have a clear strategy on this issue, so he assured that the next administration will strive for “bold diplomacy”.

Speaking of concessions, we recall that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said that Ukraine firmly insists on NATO membership, which is enshrined in the Constitution, despite possible alternative proposals in the negotiations. In his opinion, NATO is the only reliable guarantee of security.
