Blow after blow: Russia faces a series of painful problems due to the fall of the Assad regime Angela Figin

In Syria, the Assad regime, supported by Russia, fell after 53 years of rule. Vladimir Putin was unable to help the Syrian dictator retain power, showing the world his weakness.

Accordingly, new upheavals await the aggressor country. On Channel 24, political scientist Taras Zagorodniy spoke about the problems the Kremlin will face due to the fall of its henchman Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria.

Putin will have more problems

The Soviet Union was interested in the Middle East not because of great love, for example, for the Arab countries or Israel. The USSR was interested in supporting instability in the Middle East through oil. After all, depending on the situation in the Middle East, the price of oil rose or fell.

Please note! Due to tensions in the Middle East, in particular the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, oil prices have risen.

Accordingly, this affects the income of the then Soviet Union, and now Russia, which is even more dependent on the oil and gas sector than the Soviet Union.

After the Russians are thrown out of Syria, the Kremlin has fewer and fewer tools of influence on the Middle East. In fact, they are almost deprived of this, – said Zagorodniy.

The Tartus naval base in Syria was equipped during the Soviet Union. This was the only Russian base in the Mediterranean.

The Tartus base itself gave Russia the status of a kind of superpower, but now the aggressor country does not have a permanent base in the Mediterranean. Most likely, Turkey or other countries will not give the Russians the opportunity to maintain influence in the Mediterranean, the political scientist suggested.

However, this creates a problem for Russia, since the Tartus base allowed the Russians to maintain logistics in Africa.

“I would not say that this is a fatal blow to Russian expansion in African countries, but it is a painful blow, since Russia's military logistics are greatly complicated. Therefore, I think that some African countries are also expecting surprises due to the lack of a sufficient number of Wagnerites,” Zagorodniy added.

By the way, President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has fallen because almost 800 thousand Russian troops are on the territory of Ukraine
